With the PS4 so close we have to look at the competition. Who can realistically challenge in game console market? Well we have seen the X BOX 360 and the Wii explode and do extremely well. With rumors of the Playstation 4 comes rumors of the X BOX 720 and the Wii 2, but can they compete. Well to be quite honest I love the PS3 but sales statistics show that the X BOX 360 and the Wii have both outsold the PS3 console of late. So what does this mean? Well I truly believe that the PS4 will be out of this world, based on the history Sony Playstations have been the most popular console in the history of games consoles. So a slump in the PS3 does not necessarily mean that X BOX and Wii are now the dominant force. Based on the PS3 Sony will be pumping every last little bit of latest and most advanced technology into the PS4 to make sure they blow the market apart. One thing is for sure as soon as the PS4 hits the shelf, it will be straight back off again and into the living rooms of all Playstation fans.

The main reasons for people believing the playstation 4 release date is so far away are:

1. The PlayStation 3 hasn’t been on the market for long enough to bring in a new console.
2. The technology isn’t advanced enough to bring through an entirely new console.
3. The cost of engineering a console that is significantly different may be impractical.

But according to Sony there is significant room for overlap for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 to be on the market at the same time. The PlayStation 3 will be significantly reduced in price, whilst the PlayStation 4 will be significantly higher. Although costs will be astronomical to manufacture and ship two types of console, Sony has to be seen as keeping up with technology in order to be a leader in this fast and pacey market.

Sony confirm there will be a Playstation 4, although this is not expected to be released until at least 2010/2011. With the vast leaps in technology, the 10 year plan has had to be revised. With technology advancing so fast, to release a new console every 10 years or so is suddenly not a possibility.

As ever rumors are flying around the internet as to what the PS4 will look like, as to what features the playstation will have and of course the cost of owning one. Some rumors include touch screen technology, holographic technology, 3D gaming, 3D motion control with sensors on limbs and people are even going as far as to say mind control technology!! The definite upgrades in technology will be Hard Drive Capacity, Blu-Ray upgrades, Processing speeds and the normal upgrades you will get with any console.

Sony spend over $3 Billion in developing the PS3 and debates are being held whether the PS3 will be recycled so to speak with the upgraded technology inside. One thing is for sure though the more advanced technology used, the more pricey this console is likely to be.
